Myself

Rather than immediately trot out a standard CV, perhaps the best way of describing myself is to cite someone else's opinion.

Probably the best person to do this is my boss of c.13 years in MPG, Bob Offen:

"After 25 years in the media and advertising business, I've worked with quite a few strategists, and Phil is in a class of his own. He combines the ability to have both a broad vision of what clients need, and the tenacity to see the vision through to detailed and effective solutions. He's also great fun to work with!"

If you still want the standard CV stuff, here it is:

Since graduating from the University of Nottingham in 1985 (with a IIi in English, if it's important), I've worked for 20 years in the advertising/media business.

In that time I've worked for two main advertising groups, firstly FCB and then Havas (as Mediastar, Mediapolis and latterly MPG). My final position before deciding to become self-employed was as a Managing Partner of the UK office of MPG, as head of strategy.

I left this post in September 2001, initially to take a year's sabbatical in the USA . Following this, my first project was working as a consultant for the New York office of MPG, where I was based for six months from July-December 2002. I then returned to the UK and have since been doing ongoing consultative work for the global division of MPG, based in London .

My experience covers both domestic (UK) and global communications/media strategy for a range of blue chip clients, and has (in the last 5 years) focused on developing working processes for communications planning at a global level, and training senior staff in the application of these processes (see the ‘My work' section for more detail).
